THE CONTENT ANALYSIS OF STEM INTEGRATION ON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEXTBOOK: COMPARATIVE STUDY BETWEEN INDONESIA AND PHILIPPINES. Undergraduate Thesis, Surakarta: The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta, July 2025.This study aims to analyze and compare the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) content integration in junior high school science textbooks from Indonesia and the Philippines. The research considered as content analysis. Purposive sampling become the sampling technique to collect textbook samples on 8th grade from both countries. Three books from Indonesia and three books from the Philippines already analyzed, focusing on four comparable units that are Food and Digestion, Work and Energy, Light and Sound, and Structure of the Earth. Data were collected by instrument with 24 STEM integration indicators with six domain pairs: S-T, S-E, S-M, T-E, T-M, and E-M, and three integration levels multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary. Validity and inter-rater reliability were established through the Gregory formula and Kappa Statistic. The findings reveal that both countries' textbooks primarily feature multidisciplinary integration, with S-T and S-M being the most frequent combinations. Indonesian textbooks include some transdisciplinary activities and a broader variety of domain pairings, while Philippine textbooks show the integration level until interdisciplinary level. Engineering-related integration was found to be the least represented in both contexts. Furthermore, integration was most commonly found in the Light and Sound unit, while the Food and Digestion unit showed the fewest instances. These results suggest the need for more balanced and meaningful STEM integration in textbooks, particularly involving engineering and real-world problem contexts.
