The aims of this research are: (1) to investigate whether there is a significant difference in the reading skill between the students taught using numbered-heads-together and those taught using think-pair-share; and (2) to find out the group who has higher reading skill, the group taught using numbered-heads-together or the one taught using think-pair-share.
The method used in this research is an experimental method in the form of comparative study. This research was conducted from November to December 2015 at the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 7 Surakarta which is located on Jln. Mr. Muhammad Yamin 79 Surakarta. The sample of this research was chosen by using cluster random sampling, the students of X-MIPA 1 as the experimental group and the students of X-MIPA 2 as the control group. The research instrument used to collect the data areanalyzed by using t-test formula.
The result of the research shows that there is a significant difference in the reading skill between students taught using numbered-heads-together and those taught using think-pair-share, and teaching reading through numbered-heads-together is more effective than using think-pair-share.
