Universitas Sebelas Maret. This final report details my internship experience at Televisi Kampus Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (TVKU), a regional television station in Semarang, Central Java. The main focus of the internship was to create English subtitles for a news video segment from Kabar Jawa Tengah, an Indonesian-language news program. This project was chosen to apply audiovisual translation skills—particularly subtitling—in a professional media setting. The overall goal was to improve the accessibility of local news content for a wider audience, including non-Indonesian speakers and international viewers. The subtitling process involved several technical and linguistic steps: transcribing the spoken Indonesian, translating the script into English, and syncing the translated text with the video using subtitling or video editing software. During the internship, the intern faced various challenges, including translating culturally specific expressions, adjusting subtitle lengths to meet screen-time limits, and maintaining the original tone and meaning in the English version. These challenges required not only language skills but also attention to timing, tone, and readability for viewers. The internship lasted about three months and included participation in related activities, such as basic news editing and helping with script development. The final product was a fully subtitled English version of the selected news segment, suitable for cross-cultural communication and broadcasting. This experience greatly improved my practical skills in translation and media production and emphasized the importance of accuracy, clarity, and cultural sensitivity in audiovisual translation. It also underscored the importance of subtitling as a way to expand the reach of local news to a global audience.
