× Mass media has arole in running its functions. The function of mass media which are known the most by society are the function of information, education, social control, and entertainment. Indonesia is disaster area that its public needs more information and values which can be a reference in act either in pre-disaster, disaster or post-disaster. This study sets out to examine the role or education function which is run by RRI Yogyakarta as one of mass media in giving an understanding about disaster especially relating to the intricacy of Mt. Merapi to the society. It can be seen from the “Bersahabat dengan Merapi” program. The method which is used in this study is qualitative descriptive research. The data collection is done by interview technique. This study finds that RRI Yogyakarta has run its role of education relating to Merapi disaster which is shown by the “Bersahabat dengan Merapi” program to the society.
