× Since the getting of food in the world especially in the development countries has been becoming harder, designing the Small on-Farm reservoir (SFR) has become as a solution to overcome these difficulties. However, such a problem which is changes in water quality due to the excessive use of fertilizer by farmers and nonpoint source of pollutant and also the way of SFR structuring has negatively affected on water quality. This research was descriptive and explorative to explore Small on-Farm Reservoirs (SFR) water quality within rain season based on standard parameters namely water temperature, pH, Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Electrical Conductivity (EC), Dissolve Oxygen (DO), Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Nitrate (NO3)-, Chloride (Cl)-, Calcium (Ca++), Sodium (Na+), Magnesium (Mg++), and Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR) by water sampling from SFR1 and SFR2 in Gondangrejo District and also SFR3 in District of Tawangsari located in Central Java, Indonesia. This study discovered that water quality in SFR 2 neither restricted for irrigation according to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Standard nor Indonesia Standard. However, based on FAO, SFR 1 is restricted because of EC value is too (198.611 µS) high and the values of TDS (1144 mg/l), DO (2.199 mg/l), BOD (48 mg/l and COD (268.03 mg/l) are exceeded the Indonesia Standard (SNI). Although SFR3 can be considered to be still qualified for irrigation based on Indonesia Standard, but it is restricted according to FAO Standard because of EC value is high (121.83 µS). The study is recommended to treat the water in SFR1 with biological treatment ( an activated sludge) and supplying more oxygen by aerator to increase DO that will be followed decreasing in BOD and COD, and also with physical treatment (dredging the reservoir and reducing the overuse of fertilizers) to decrease EC and TDS.
